Skill Assessment Requirements

If you intend to apply for a ‘GSM’ visa, you must obtain a skills assessment from relevant assessing authority as specified on the occupation list. The applicant needs to demonstrate that you have the necessary skills that match those required for an occupation listed on the current visa Occupation Lists. This requirement applies to the following visas:

  • Subclass 189 Skilled – Independent visa (Points Stream)
  • Subclass 190 Skilled – Nominated visa.
  • Subclass 485 Temporary Graduate visa (Graduate Work stream)
  • Subclass 494 Skilled Employer Sponsored (Regional) visa.
  • Subclass 186 ENS (Direct Entry stream)
  • Subclass 482 Temporary Skill Shortage visa (certain applicants)

There are currently approximately 28 relevant assessing authorities specified by DOHA.

Application Process

1) Pre-Assessment*:
  • a) We conduct an initial review of your eligibility based on your selected skilled occupation and the relevant assessing authority.
  • b) This step involves reviewing your personal information and documents to gauge the likelihood of a successful skills assessment.

* Due to the complexity and time involved in doing an appropriate initial assessment we reserve the right to charge a minimal fee of $150 if deemed necessary.

2) Skills Assessment Application:
  • a) Upon confirming your eligibility, we provide a comprehensive list of required documents and information.
  • b) Once you provide the necessary details, documents, and assessment fee, we proceed to lodge your application with the assessing authority.
  • c) We actively follow up on your application and respond to any requests for additional information from the authority.

3) EOI:

The EOI is submitted through Skill select. The following types of application can only be lodged through Skill Select:

  • a) Skilled (Points Tested) Visas
  • i) Skilled Independent Subclass 189 Visas
  • ii) Skilled Nominated Subclass 190 Visas
  • iii) Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) subclass 491 visa
  • b) Business Skills Visas
  • i) Business Talent Subclass 132 Visas
  • ii) Business Innovation & Investment Subclass 188 Visas
The process generally involves 5 steps. 
4) Nomination:

It is important to understand that each state/ territory government has its own set of requirements which are besides the minimum requirements from the Department of Home Affairs. Each applicant must meet both these requirements for the applicant to be nominated. Understanding the requirements of all states/ territories can be a daunting task.
